Alpha Wave India I LP is reportedly looking to sell its entire 7.8% stake in Aye Finance, worth up to ₹320.4 crore, via a discounted block deal priced at a floor of ₹167 a share, with the buyer undisclosed.

The stake sale on the table

Sources cited by CNBC-TV18 and NDTV Profit said Alpha Wave India I LP is preparing to offload up to 1.92 crore shares of Aye Finance, roughly its full holding in the microfinance-focused NBFC. Aye Finance is an NBFC-MFI that lends primarily to micro and small enterprises across India, a segment closely tracked for its credit growth and asset quality trends. As of the quarter ended June 2026, Alpha Wave held 1,91,88,604 shares, a 7.78% stake, according to Aye Finance's shareholding pattern filed with the BSE.

The proposed transaction is a secondary block deal, meaning the shares would change hands between investors on the exchange rather than being issued afresh by the company. Aye Finance itself will not receive any proceeds from the sale; the money would go entirely to Alpha Wave India I LP.

As of this report, no bulk or block deal confirming completion of the transaction had appeared on NSE's large-deals data, so the sale remains a reported development rather than a confirmed one. The final price, quantity and buyer could still change from what has been reported.

Deal mechanics: price, discount and broker

The floor price of ₹167 per share works out to roughly a 5.5% discount to Aye Finance's previous closing price of ₹176.65 on the NSE. IIFL Capital is understood to be managing the transaction as the broker.

Large block deals priced at a discount can weigh on a stock in the short term if institutional demand at the offered price is thin. That said, the buyer side of this transaction has not been identified in any of the reports so far, making it difficult to gauge how the market will absorb the block.

Where the stock stands versus its floor price

Aye Finance shares closed at ₹176.65 on the NSE a session before the block deal was reported, having moved in a range of ₹174.05 to ₹180.23. In late-morning trade on August 27, the stock was quoted around ₹179, up close to 1.4% on the day.

That places the current market price comfortably above both the IPO price of ₹129 and the proposed block-deal floor of ₹167. Even at a 5.5% discount to recent trading levels, the deal price would still leave the stock well ahead of where it listed in February.

Aye Finance's IPO and Alpha Wave's holding

Aye Finance listed on the NSE and BSE on February 16, 2026, at an issue price of ₹129 per share. The IPO comprised a fresh issue of ₹710 crore along with an offer for sale of ₹300 crore, through which several early investors, including Alpha Wave, pared their holdings.

Alpha Wave had already sold shares worth about ₹30 crore during that IPO offer for sale. The stake now reportedly on the block would mark a far larger and more complete exit from the company for the investor, roughly six months after listing gains had already been partly booked.

Part of a busier week for block deals

The proposed Aye Finance transaction is not an isolated move. Earlier in the same week, promoter-group entity Welspun Investments and Commercials, along with Welspun Corp CEO-MD Vipul Mathur, sold a combined 2.4% stake in Welspun Corp for ₹1,433 crore.

Separately, Ribbit Capital launched a ₹1,914-crore block deal in Billionbrains Garage Ventures, the parent of Groww, while Y Combinator sold a 1.05% stake in Meesho for around ₹970 crore on the NSE. Together, these transactions point to a pattern of early institutional and venture investors using block deals to monetise holdings in recently listed or soon-to-list Indian companies.

What investors should watch

For Aye Finance shareholders, the near-term questions centre on execution rather than the headline stake size. Key points to track include:

  1. Whether the block deal for Alpha Wave's stake goes through in full or only partially.
  2. The final transaction price relative to the ₹167 floor.
  3. The identity of the buyer or buyers once disclosed, since institutional participation would signal continued confidence in the stock.
  4. Any follow-through in Aye Finance's share price once the exchange confirms the trade.

Until the deal is formally reflected in exchange bulk or block deal data, it remains a reported development in Alpha Wave's ownership of Aye Finance rather than a settled transaction.
